Computer programming has an integral role in our world. You would not be reading this article without it. In fact, without computer programming you would not be able to use your cellphone, computer or any other gadgets. Learning the fundamentals of programming can set you apart from counterparts, giving you a competitive edge in this technologically driven world. Earning coding’s degree can help you innovate and create solutions for a global society.

The first programming languages designed to communicate instructions to a computer were invented in the early 1950s. But in Bhutan programming is still not that popular. When I first heard about it back in 2019, I also wasn’t interested; it might be because I hadn't heard and experienced it then. But now that I’m learning and also implementing, I find it very beneficial for now and also for the future. Through my experience I can now say that programming is really a connection to numerous areas of the modern world. And I feel very blessed to get the opportunity with the grace of our fifth Druk Gyalpo introducing coding and giving importance to it.

Coding is now made more fun and engaging in schools and to the students with the introduction of the new coding online platform called Code Monkey that was presented to the education ministry on July 20, 2021. It is Soelra from our king to the young Bhutanese coder. And I personally believe that Code Monkey makes coding a fun task for learners and it is also visually interesting. With different online challenges and activities, we are able to develop critical, creative and logical thinking.

I believe that every age brings along its own version of change which in turn requires new skills to be developed and acquired. The rise in gun meant soldiers had to abandon swords and learn how to operate a gun. Similarly, to fit in this modern world and technological revolution, we need to learn how to code and to operate machines. And in today's age of technology, it has become necessary to learn how to code.

And Code Monkey is a useful tool to learn coding. Rather than relying on the teachers or textbooks to teach us, Code Monkey harnesses the power and fun of games to impart skills through a series of premade games. On top of that, it really benefitted me while using it as it stimulated my critical and logical thinking skills. With all the skills coding utilizes, it also benefits students learning.

Finally, I believe coding brings tremendous benefits to students. The best part is that you don’t have to have any experience beforehand. So, in my view, coding is something which really helps you to grow and develop into a person who can defeat the world with a few clicks on a keyboard.
