YouTube is an online video sharing and social media platform that is now owned by Google. It was officially launched in February 2005 by Steve Chen, Chad Hurley, and Jawed Karim. However, In October 2006, YouTube was bought by Google for $1.65 billion. It is the most visited website after Google with over one billion monthly users.
As per social blade analytics, there are 84.2 million accounts and 53 million content creators on YouTube (As of 24th June 2021). Isn’t it so important to know about it?
YouTube content creators, popularly referred to as YouTubers, upload over 100 hours of content per minute. And why do you think they are spending a lot of time and a huge amount of energy creating powerful videos?
Stay with me till the end, so that you know why there are a billion views and millions of accounts on YouTube. Moreover, it is also important to be a part of the YouTube community as a content creator, not just a mere video consumer.
In this blog, I want to share my experience being a YouTuber and how you could be one running a successful YouTube channel. It is also important to know the benefits of being a video content creator and some tips to be a successful YouTuber in Bhutan. Thank me later! Currently, I keep in touch with three YouTube accounts where in some channels I upload content anonymously.
Let’s speak based on this…..
Who creates content on YouTube are popularly known as YouTuber. To be an active content creator, you should know the three key point that I have discussed below:
- Have a niche
- Having a niche or a clear idea about the channel you are going to run is an initial and crucial step. My first YouTube channel failed because I did not have a clear idea of what content I would upload. I uploaded around twenty videos and did not get ten or twenty views even after a month. I failed miserably. However, I found out that the problem is with not having a clear niche on what content I am supposed to create and upload. If you don’t have a clear idea, you end up uploading mixed content that hardly gets subscribers and views.
Moreover, your niche should be based on viewers’ interests. You should do some keyword research on what type of content is searched and viewed more. So accordingly, you need to work on it.
More importantly, having a unique helpful idea will always win. This is because your video need not have to compete with other similar videos and by default, your videos will be ranked high.
- Create a channel
- Once you have a clear idea on running a YouTube channel, you just need to officially set up your channel. All users who have a Gmail account can create a YouTube channel and it’s free. Make sure that your channel name should somehow speak about the niche. For example, my educational YouTube channel; Bhutan Python Coders, aims to teach python programming to my students.
- Consistently upload video
- Once you have finished setting up your channel, you should upload the content consistently. Consistency always wins. Since I am not a full-time YouTuber, maintaining consistency is quite challenging. However, creating content whenever you get time can push you to be a successful YouTuber gradually. Slow and steady wins the race.
Yeshi lhendup films is a successful YouTube channel running in Bhutan. He maintains consistency by uploading new content every Friday.
- If you want to make some passive income, running a YouTube channel can be the best platform. For example, In Bhutan “Yeshi Lhendup Films” is one of the fastest-growing channels and a full-time YouTuber. He makes his living by making music videos.
To get your channel monetized, you should meet two requirements; Have at least 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 hours of watch time within the past 12 months.
Once your channel is eligible for monetization, you can make money from Google AdSense, Affiliate program, and Sponsorship.
Google pays you monthly either in direct deposit or check. But Google will not issue a payment until your earning meets a threshold amount i.e $100. If you’re earning less than $100 in a month then you won’t be paid in that particular month instead your earnings will be rolled over and added to next month.
I have seen people making six to seven figures just by running a YouTube channel and you can be one if you start today.
- Once you start running a YouTube channel, you need to do some research online and relearn some skills and concepts. A viewer only prefers helpful content which solves their problems, who entertains them and the channel that updates with the latest news and information. Accordingly, you need to categorize your niche and enhance your skill and knowledge to serve the viewer at your best.
I started the Bhutan Python coders channel to learn python programming and share it with others. Learning becomes serious when you start to share, otherwise, you have to face criticism.
Running a YouTube channel will force you to learn more, enhance your skill, and improve your social and communication skill.
- Some content creators specifically run a YouTube channel to build a community. Once they get a huge number of subscribers and followers they make good sales of their product. They use their channel to promote their product and inform the people about their new product. Believe me, your network is directly proportional to your net worth.
Since YouTube is one of the most visited websites, you have a high chance of hooking the maximum number of people.
To be a successful YouTuber, content is the king. Create content regularly and choose the best niche. If you want to run a YouTube channel to make some money, make sure that you work hard, and sacrifice a lot to create maximum content in your channel. On another side, if your motives are to teach and help learners like how I do in Bhutan Python Coders, then you can go with your flow.
