Autobiography of www.samtsehss.edu.bt

Sonam Wangchu (Webmaster) | 1317

I was born in 2014. My father bought my name from Druknet. And Druknet happily named me as www.samtsehss.edu.bt. I live in a house which is just one gigabyte. Owing to the limited space I live a minimalist’s life. My father needs to pay a rent around Nu.3500 annually to the Bhutan Telecom. My dad built me with many matured technologies.

Body

My skeleton system is created using HTML(Hypertext Markup Language). It ensures my skull, backbones, ribs, girdle, femur, limbs et al are in the correct position. No parts of my body will be complete without it. In the early days of the Internet my ancestors roamed like zombies in cyberspace.

In order to cover up my bones my father used CSS (Cascading Style Sheets). It makes me look pretty, warm and as intuitive as possible. It provides an extensive cosmetic toolset.

I looked like a mannequin; strong and presentable. But, I was not able to gain much traction. My father used vanilla JavaScript to help me show some moves. Thereafter, I was able to catch more eyeballs and I was being called more often.

I thought I was fully grown till I realized that I was void of brain, heart and a nervous system. I always had to depend on my father to make any changes; he had to basically drive me down to my bones.

So he developed my nervous system using PHP. It fetches data from and to the brain. He tinkered my brain using MySQL. This is where all my data is stored in the form of tables. That made me do the boring stuff myself.

Responsibilities

I am fed with news and announcements. I could even display the upcoming events. I was also tasked to introduce all my fathers colleagues to the surfers. He trained me to show the weather report of samtse locality. But, he discontinued it later.

He kept in touch with me day-in and day-out.He learns to handle me by trial and error. As long as the instructions were unambiguous, I followed diligently. Otherwise, I throw him a bundle of my broken bones. My father calls it a bug.

Intruders

After almost a year of uninterrupted journey, I was kidnapped. The kidnappers made my skin pitch dark and hoisted a flag with a skull logo. When people called me, a battle song in Urdu was played. My dad panicked and treated me to the former grandeur.

Before long, a script kiddies defaced me. He left a set of instructions for my dad to fix it. My dad followed it and I was back.

Upgrade

My dad left me unattended for almost two months. The news and announcements turned stale. I felt, I was left to die. Since I had nothing fresh and new I became unattractive and even the bots refused to visit me.

Then came my dad with a tool similar to a swiss knife. He began to tear my skin and break my bones. He did it in all smiles with zeal. I felt miserable and cursed my life. Even in the deep darkness I had hope and that made all the difference.

Slowly and steadily I became agile and responsive. Mobile users were all smiles. He used Bootstrap to make my skin smooth and super elegant. It even caters to services offered by JavaScript. That was another skill set under my father's belt. My dad reworked my nervous system. He threw all the barebone PHP and replaced it with a framework called CodeIgniter. It improved my immune system and kept those viruses at bay.

Learning

There are many technologies being used to create me and my cousins on the Internet. Most developers begin from learning to build our bones, skin and movement. After they perfect this art then they progress to design and creation of our brain and heart.

Once the developers build a firm foundation in technologies like a bare bone PHP, CSS and JavaScript they move on to frameworks. Some of the popular PHP frameworks are Laravel and Codeigniter. My DNA is coded with legacy Codeigniter version 3. The current stable version is Codeigniter 4. These frameworks are free contributions of thousands of developers. How nice!

Content Management System(CMS) is another useful technology to create me and my cousins in cyberspace. There are many CMS created by all those nice people in the web developer community. Usually, these technologies are used by people with minimum knowledge and skills in HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP. Everything is ready made. Some of the popular CMS are WordPress, Joomla, and Drupal.

Whisper

Lately, my father invested a lot of time and effort in improving my skin. He was with me most of his waking hours. He added useful responsibility while removing obsolete ones. He introduced me to a lot of people these days.

I am eight years old. I am stable and grown up now. My dad made me resilient to script kiddies, Urdu songs and other intruders. My intuition whispers to me that I may not have as much love and care from my dad in the times to come. That only time can tell.
