The winners of the 2017 National drama festival
The National Drama Festival 2017 witnessed 8000 students in 200 schools engaged in performing arts. For most of the students it was their first time on stage involved in a meaningful drama.
The selected 51 plays involving 1500 students were brought to Thimphu to showcase their new found talents. For 51 days, 51 schools displayed 51 plays. For the Thimphu audience there were a mix of exciting choices of Shakespearean dramas, Ancient Greek plays, contemporary plays, Bhutanese Namthars, and self created plays.
With the 2017 National Drama festival, performing arts have now become an integral part of the school program. Our students stand to derive the many immense benefits of performing arts. The Ministry shall hence forth make the festival an annual event.
Judging the top three amongst the 51 plays had been the most difficult task. Each was uniquely special. The talent of the artists, the creativity of the script and direction, the hard work put in the props and costumes, and the care and affection for dramas shown were all special. It took a panel of judges a lot of scrutinising, debating and finally rising up to the challenge to make the call.
The Ministry of Education is pleased to announce the top three dramas of the first ever National Drama Festival 2017 as follows:
- First position - Tang Central School - Drangpo Mi gi Lothey (winner of cash prize of Nu. 100000)
- Second position - Bajo Higher Secondary School - Hakunama Tata (winner of cash prize of Nu. 60000)
- Third position - Samtse Higher Secondary School - An episode in the life of an author (winner of cash prize of Nu. 40000)
The certificates and prizes will be awarded at a special event. Congratulations to the winners and to all other schools for the talents that you displayed.
