02-05-2025 Samtsehss“A teacher takes a hand, opens a mind, and touches a heart.” This timeless saying came to life on May 2, 2025, as Samtse Higher Secondary School vibrantly celebrated Teachers’ Day with reverence, gratitude, and joy — paying tribute to educators and honoring the legacy of His Majesty the Third Druk Gyalpo, the Father of Modern Education in Bhutan.
Teachers’ Day at Samtse HSS was more than a formal event — it was a powerful expression of appreciation and cultural pride. Held on the birth anniversary of the Third King of Bhutan, whose vision laid the foundation for the nation's education system, the day was a perfect blend of tradition, recognition, and student-teacher camaraderie. With the entire school community coming together, the event reflected both the values of Bhutanese culture and the impact of dedicated educators.
The celebration commenced with a solemn butter lamp lighting ceremony in the conference room. Student leaders and teachers offered butter lamps as a recitation of zhabten filled the air, invoking blessings for the longevity of His Majesty. A group photo session followed, capturing the spirit of unity and respect that marked the beginning of the day.
The mood shifted to festive as students lined up at the MPH to welcome teachers with heartfelt gifts, each presented with love and gratitude. The atmosphere was vibrant with emotion and celebration. The Marchang Ceremony, led by the Girls’ Captain, opened the formal program, symbolizing purity and auspicious beginnings.
In his address to the gathering, Principal Mr. Tshuelthrim Dorji extended warm Teachers’ Day wishes and expressed heartfelt thanks to His Majesty the Third King. Among the highlights of the day was a joyful cake-cutting ceremony, celebrating togetherness and unity. Students gave moving gratitude speeches, describing their teachers as guiding lights who inspire and nurture every step of their learning journey.
The school also took the opportunity to honor excellence in education, presenting Academic Achievement Awards to faculty members who had significantly contributed to the outstanding 2024 Bhutan Board Examination results for Grades 10 and 12. The recognition added pride to the celebration and reminded everyone of the impact a committed teacher can make.
Laughter and cheer followed during the fun-filled games segment. Male teachers competed in an entertaining game of Musical Chair, while Lady Teachers participated in an energetic Balloon Bursting challenge. These activities brought out laughter, team spirit, and unforgettable moments of joy.
The event closed on a cultural note with traditional Bhutanese dance performances by students, showcasing both talent and deep respect for their teachers.
